Safety

EMoS Australia (EMoS) aims to provide our customers with vehicles with the highest safety level possible. We do our best to make sure that our products are compliant to the Australian and/or the international safety standards.

Our vehicles have been legally imported and comply with the federal importation requirements for the defined vehicle categories.

Road and traffic rules may differ from state to state. Including the use, registration, and driver licensing requirements for the vehicles we provide. You should always check with your relevant traffic authority for your own and other people’s safety and to avoid breaking the rules.

The term “product”, “device”, “vehicle” or “equipment” used in this page refers to any of EMoS products. The following are the definitions and interpretations used but not limited for EMoS vehicles:

Personal mobility devices 1

A personal mobility device is designed primarily for recreational or commuting use, they are normally small and portable and are designed to carry one person over medium range distances at speeds of up to 25km/h.

A personal mobility device means a vehicle that:

  • has 1 or more wheels; and
  • is propelled by an electric motor; and
  • has an effective stopping system controlled by using brakes, gears or motor control; and
  • when propelled only by the motor, cannot reach a speed of more than 25km/h on level ground; and
  • is not more than 1,250mm in length by 700mm in width by 1,350mm in height; or 700mm in length by 1,250mm in width by 1,350mm in height; and
  • weighs 60kg or less when the vehicle is not carrying a person or other load; and
  • has no sharp protrusions.

1 Personal mobility devices may be treated as road vehicles by some jurisdictions and non-road vehicles by others. For the purposes of importation, they will be given the same conditions of use as non-road vehicles. Use on footpaths and/or roads will be subject to the road transport agency of each state and territory.

MOPED – 2 Wheels (LA)

A 2-wheeled motor vehicle, not being a power-assisted pedal cycle, with an engine cylinder capacity not exceeding 50 ml and a ‘Maximum Motor Cycle Speed‘ not exceeding 50 km/h; or a 2-wheeled motor vehicle with a power source other than a piston engine and a ‘Maximum Motor Cycle Speed‘ not exceeding 50 km/h.

MOPED – 3 wheels (LB)

A 3-wheeled motor vehicle, not being a power-assisted pedal cycle, with an engine cylinder capacity not exceeding 50 ml and a ‘Maximum Motor Cycle Speed‘ not exceeding 50 km/h; or a 3-wheeled motor vehicle with a power source other than a piston engine and a ‘Maximum Motor Cycle Speed‘ not exceeding 50 km/h.

MOTOR CYCLE (LC)

A 2-wheeled motor vehicle with an engine cylinder capacity exceeding 50 ml or a ‘Maximum Motor Cycle Speed‘ exceeding 50 km/h.

General Safety Instructions

Do not use any product EMoS unless you and your guardian (if you are a minor and/or have a guardian) carefully read and follow the following instructions:

  • Ensure that you are familiar with and follow the relevant state and local laws according to the vehicle classification before using
    any of the EMoS products on public roads.
  • ALWAYS wear a suitable helmet, appropriate footwear, and clothing.
  • ALWAYS obey and check the local road rules in your area.
  • ALWAYS ride at a safe speed maintaining full control over the device at all times.
  • Avoid uneven surfaces, potholes, surface cracks, and obstacles.
  • NEVER ride the device if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • ALWAYS respect pedestrians and ride your device around them with the upmost care.
  • Read and follow the product user manual and manufacturer instructions and recommendations carefully before use.
  • Always check and maintain your device before use, for example, but not limited to: check all screws/nuts throughout the device are tight regularly, clean the bearings for best roll and quietest/smoothest ride (including the bearing in the drive gear) as bearings get dirty and affect ride quality and may reduce battery performance and cause possible bearing failure, make sure that your device and hand control batteries are charged, make sure that pedal/foot part is not slippery.
  • Do not jump on the device, do not ride off gutters or curbs, do not smash the board into hard objects, and do not drop the board on the ground for starting operation. All these actions are very dangerous and may cause injury or death. Although the products have been made to handle rigorous riding, they are still electrical devices and need to be handled with care and respect.
  • Our products CANNOT be towed by a car, nor can a user/rider hold onto a car if it is moving.
  • Always check your device making sure it’s not overheated, especially in hot weather.
